My Contribution to the WordPress 6.8.x (Spanish – Costa Rica) Project

After several translation sessions, I was able to see the progress of my contributions to the WordPress 6.8.x – Spanish (Costa Rica) project. Throughout the WPCredits program, I submitted a total of 119 translation suggestions, helping improve the localization of WordPress for users in Costa Rica.

Each translation represented a small but meaningful contribution to an international open-source project that is used by millions of people around the world.

When I started this project, I did not expect to contribute such a large number of translation suggestions. At first, I focused on understanding how GlotPress worked and how translation strings were organized. As I became more familiar with the platform, I was able to work more efficiently and confidently.

Many of the strings I translated were related to the Block Editor, accessibility messages, media management, interface labels, and system notifications within the WordPress 6.8.x project. Every suggestion required careful attention to context, terminology, and formatting to ensure the translation would be clear and consistent for Spanish-speaking users in Costa Rica.

Watching my list of submitted suggestions grow was motivating and gave me a greater appreciation for the work carried out every day by WP Polyglots contributors around the world.

Throughout this experience, I learned that contributing to WordPress is not limited to software development. Translation is another essential way to support the community by making WordPress accessible to users who speak different languages.

I also gained a better understanding of the collaborative review process, where translation suggestions are evaluated before becoming part of the official project. This process helps maintain quality and consistency across all translations.

Completing my contributions to the WordPress 6.8.x – Spanish (Costa Rica) project was one of the most rewarding parts of the WPCredits program. Beyond the number of translation suggestions I submitted, I am proud to have participated in a global open-source initiative and to have contributed to improving WordPress for my local community.

This experience strengthened my attention to detail, my communication skills, and my appreciation for collaborative software development. It also encouraged me to continue participating in open-source projects whenever I have the opportunity.
